Akanksha Raj (PhD)

Meet our founder

Sanava began when motherhood forced a reset. With less time and higher stakes, I became more conscious of what deserved to stay — not just in my daily routine, but on my bathroom shelf. Caring for my baby’s skin also made me look more closely at ingredients: what they did, why they were there, and whether they were something I could genuinely trust.

At the same time, I found myself questioning why healthy skin had become synonymous with ten-step rituals, conflicting actives, and unnecessary complexity.

As a chemist with a PhD from KTH Royal Institute of Technology, my doctoral work focused on surface chemistry, biomolecular interfaces, and lipid-based systems — areas closely connected to how surfaces are structured, protected, and supported. Looking at skincare through that lens, I saw an opportunity to think differently: effective skincare did not have to mean more products. It could begin with understanding what the skin barrier actually needs.

I wanted to retain only what mattered functionally: deep nourishment, lasting hydration, and biomimetic barrier support, without complexity for complexity’s sake. Every element had to earn its place.

After two years of formulation and testing, Sanava is the result: intelligent, barrier-first skincare designed for long-term skin health.
